Booking a caterer safely

Booking a caterer directly usually means a deposit by bank transfer. Among the 10 caterers in our price index that publish one, the median deposit is 50% of the bill, and only 10 of the 34 caterer websites we checked publish cancellation terms.

• You pay GatherPlate, not a caterer's own bank account.
• Card payments are only charged once the caterer confirms your order.
• The caterer is paid in full only after your event.
• Cancel by your refund deadline, usually 7 days before the event, for a full refund. If the caterer cancels, you get your money back.
• If something goes wrong on the day, report it within 3 days and our team reviews it with the caterer.

How we compared them

• Every caterer on GatherPlate with at least one package you can book today is included. No caterer pays to appear or to be picked.
• A lowest-price pick compares per-person prices within one format and needs at least two caterers to compare. Package totals and build-your-own menus are not compared on price, and prices under RM 5 are treated as placeholders and left out.
• Packages named as gifts, cakes, desserts or drinks do not count as meals, and canapé and seminar packages are not counted as buffets.
• Typical prices come from the GatherPlate Catering Price Index, edition 2026-09, built from caterers' own published prices.
• Reviews are verified GatherPlate reviews only. Reply times need at least 5 customer chats before we show them.
