Canapé Catering in KL: What It Actually Costs in 2026 (Real Prices, No Gatekeeping)

Okay so you've been asked to sort out food for a launch, a birthday or your cousin's wedding cocktail hour, and someone in the group chat said "just do canapés lah". Cute idea. But how much does canapé catering actually cost in KL?

We went through every finger food package on GatherPlate so you don't have to. Short answer: about RM3 to RM9 a piece, or RM30 to RM60 per guest for a two-hour event. Want it styled and set up for you? That starts at RM75 per guest.

All prices are from packages listed on GatherPlate by caterers in KL and Selangor, checked on 28 September 2026. They're list prices before vouchers. Vendors update their menus, so always double check before you book.

First: is finger food even the right call?

Finger food is the move when people are standing, mingling or coming and going. Think:

  • Wedding cocktail hour, while the couple is busy taking photos.
  • Product launches and networking nights, where everyone has a drink in one hand.
  • Seminar tea breaks, when you've got 20 minutes, not an hour.
  • Open houses and housewarmings, with guests dropping in all afternoon.
  • Birthdays and engagements at home, when there's no space for a long table.

It's not the move when the event runs through lunch or dinner. The aunties and uncles at a kenduri want to sit down with nasi and lauk, and honestly, fair. In that case, add finger food on top of a main caterer instead of replacing it.

The price per piece breakdown

Most savoury bites land between RM3 and RM5. Smoked salmon, fancy toppings or a croissant base push it higher.

  • Sushi, RM2.40 to RM4.99 a plate: EAT2GATHER, from tamago and kani up to salmon.
  • RM3.20 to RM3.50: mini spring rolls, mini curry puffs and mini cream puffs at Little Collins Cakery & Cafe.
  • RM3.83: a chicken soft shell taco at Escobar Grill Kitchen, sold in threes for RM11.50. The vegetarian set is RM8.70.
  • RM4.50: mini quiche, egg mayo choux, chicken pot pies, sausage rolls and picnic sandwiches at Little Collins, plus mini burger buns, mini sandwiches and fruit tarts at Munch Eaters Catering.
  • RM6 to RM6.50: savoury canapés (tuna, mushroom or hummus), mini pizza and salad cups at Little Collins, and pasta or mash potato cups at Munch Eaters.
  • RM9: mini croissant sandwiches and mini hot dogs at Little Collins.

Dessert cups are RM12 to RM20 each. Petit fours are RM162.50 for 25, so RM6.50 a piece, and a Nyonya kuih platter is RM195 for 50.

Plot twist: boxed isn't always more expensive. Little Collins' Mini Bento is RM18 for a picnic sandwich, sausage roll, curry puff and cream puff, which cost RM15.70 loose. Their Medium Bento is RM28 for five pieces worth RM28.70 loose. So that box is basically free.

Canapé packages, if you want it done for you

Urbean Cafe in Ampang has three canapé tiers, all with decorative setup, food presentation and cutlery. The more guests, the lower the price per head.

  • Package A, 10 menu items: RM80 per guest for 5 to 19 guests, RM75 from 20.
  • Package B, 14 menu items: RM100 per guest for 5 to 19 guests, RM95 from 20.
  • Package C, 18 menu items: RM115 per guest for 10 to 29 guests, RM110 from 30.

You pick from hot bites (mini sliders, jerk chicken skewers), cold bites (smoked salmon on crackers), dips and sweets (mini tiramisu cups), at least one from each group. Delivery is charged by distance at checkout. Small catch: the package counts menu items, not pieces. Ask how many pieces each guest actually gets before you compare it with anything else.

Need it halal certified? Dateen Catering in Pandan Perdana has two Western tea breaks at RM31 per guest, minimum 20, with four hours of on-site service and Americano included. Think mini buns, chicken and cheese sandwiches, mini tarts, muffins, and Portuguese egg tarts in Package B.

Want something more fun? Escobar Grill Kitchen in Sungai Buloh does a Taco Fiesta Spread for 10 to 12 guests at RM323: three nacho trays, 24 tacos, five quesadillas cut up and two halved burritos. That's RM27 to RM32 per guest.

Real budget: 50 guests, 5 ways

Same event every time. 50 guests, about two hours, finger food as the main food.

  1. Dateen Western tea break: RM1,550. RM31 per guest, coffee and on-site service included.
  2. Munch Eaters mini bites: about RM1,650. 50 each of burger buns, sandwiches, fruit tarts, mushroom pasta cups and seaweed handball cups is RM1,325. Five 10-person servings of chicken wings add RM325. It's five pieces a head plus wings, so better for a shorter event.
  3. Little Collins pastry spread: about RM1,960. 100 each of spring rolls, curry puffs, cream puffs, sausage rolls and picnic sandwiches is RM1,890, plus a RM70 handling fee. RM39.20 per guest.
  4. Little Collins canapé spread: about RM2,585. 100 each of canapés, quiche, egg mayo choux, pot pies and mini tarts is RM2,480, plus RM105 handling. Add RM350 if you want their team to set up and serve for four hours.
  5. Urbean Cafe Package A: RM3,750. RM75 per guest, styled and set up, plus delivery. Package B is RM4,750 and C is RM5,500.

Extra: a sushi corner from EAT2GATHER with 100 blue, 50 orange and 50 salmon plates is RM679.50, plus RM60 handling.

How many pieces per person?

Little Collins packs 4 to 5 pieces into a bento meant as a light meal for one. Start there, then adjust.

  • Before a buffet or dinner: 3 to 4 pieces each.
  • Tea break or short reception: 4 to 6 pieces each.
  • Finger food is the main food for two hours or more: 8 to 10 pieces each, and make a third of them filling, like sandwiches, buns, pasta cups or tacos.

Go heavier on savoury than sweet. Everyone says they'll just have one dessert, then goes back for more mini sliders.

Bonus: the wedding cocktail hour hack

Nobody said you need one caterer for the whole wedding. Keep your main caterer for the reception meal, then book finger food for the cocktail hour so guests aren't hungry while you're doing photos. Our kenduri kahwin budget guide covers the main meal side.

Two add-ons we keep seeing at Klang Valley weddings:

  • Ice cream booth. Scoop Valet Global serves cones with one topping and up to three flavours: RM290 for 200, RM395 for 300, RM600 for 500. Four hours of serving is RM85 more.
  • Mocktail bar. Alcohol-free cocktails like a virgin mojito or lychee mocktail give you the full cocktail hour look with zero alcohol, so Muslim guests can join in too. Chillaaa Club's Essential Package is RM805 for 100 cups or RM1,656 for 300, with two bartenders, four drinks and four hours of service. More in our mocktail bar guide.

The maths for 300 guests: five pieces of finger food each from Little Collins (about RM6,050 with handling), 300 mocktails (RM1,656) and 300 cones (RM395) come to about RM8,100. That's RM27 per guest on top of your main caterer. One note for Muslim guests: stick to mocktails. Drinks sold as non-alcoholic beer or wine can still have traces of alcohol.
